The purpose of this web page it to explain CA cobra online quotes. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) is a program that allows certain individuals to keep their group health insurance plan after they have left a job or where they no longer work enough hours to qualify for the company's medical insurance plan. In most situations Cobra medical coverage will usually last for 18 months. COBRA usually requires that group medical policies sponsored by employers with 20 or more employees in the previous year offer employees and their families the opportunity for a temporary extension of medical coverage in certain circumstances where coverage under the plan would otherwise stop. The program allows employees and their families who have lost their medical coverage the ability to choose to continue their group medical benefits provided by their group health policy for a limited period of time under specific circumstances such as reduction in the hours worked, involuntary job loss, divorce, transition between jobs, voluntary job loss or death. A person who is on Cobra may be required to pay the entire premium for the coverage as well as an extra two percent of the cost of the plan as an administrative fee. Once an individual has lost his or her group medical plan coverage their are 60 days to accept Cobra coverage or lose all rights to benefits.
