This page discusses CA Medicare Part A. Medicare Part A is often called hospital insurance. It basically covers four different types of health care expenses. The four types of care covered by Part A are home health care, hospice care, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility and inpatient hospital care. It also covers the cost of blood received at a hospital or skilled nursing facility during a covered stay. Each one of these benefit types are subject to their own deductibles and benefit periods. For hospitalization Medicare pays for the costs of semiprivate rooms, supplies, general nursing and meals. It doesn't however pay for telephones, private rooms (unless medically necessary), private duty nurses and televisions. With skilled nursing facilities Medicare pays for such expenses as speech-language pathology services, a semiprivate room, rehabilitative care and skilled nursing services. With home health care Medicare will pay for such costs as part-time or intermittent skilled nursing services, durable medical equipment, medical social services, part-time or intermittent home health aid services and physical and occupational services. With hospice services Medicare pays for the costs of such services as social worker services, medical equipment, pain control drugs, nurses, counseling, physical therapy, doctors and medical supplies. Under Medicare Part A all but the first three pints of blood are paid for by Medicare. We have helped Californians with their Medicare Supplement needs for more than twenty years.
