Part A and Part B have specific limitations, co-payments and deductibles. A major accident or illness could result in massive medical expenses even when a person is covered by Medicare. Any condition requiring a prolonged hospital stay would result in large out-of-pocket costs to someone who is covered only by Medicare. The problem is made worse by the fact that not all services are covered. The Part A deductible is per benefit period. This is government health care program for people with very low income levels. Another option is to purchase Medicare Supplemental insurance. This is an insurance plan offered by an insurance company which pays for many of the costs not picked up by Medicare.
