All modern Medicare Supplemental policies must cover a minimum set of benefits. These minimum benefits are known as the Medicare Supplemental core benefits. A Medicare Supplemental Plan G offers the core benefits and additional benefits.

The Plan G Medicare Supplemental benefits are:

Covering the Part A coinsurance amount for the 61st day of hospitalization through the 90th day of hospitalization.

Covering the Part A co-payments for the 60 lifetime reserve days.

Covering the Medicare Part A hospital expenses after all Part A hospital benefits have been used up.

Paying the cost of the first three pints of blood under both Part A and Part B.

Paying the Medicare Part B co-payments for Medicare approved charges.

Paying for at-home recovery. This coverage pays for at-home assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) while a person qualifies for Medicare home health care benefits. This at-home recovery coverage pays for up to a certain amount per visit by the provider and has an annual maximum.

Covering the Medicare Part A deductible per benefit period.

Paying the Medicare Part A co-payments for the 21st to the 100th day of care in a skilled nursing facility.

Paying 80% of the billed charges for emergency treatment, physician services and other medical services received in a foreign country that is medically necessary. This foreign care must begin within 60 days of leaving the United States. This benefit has a $250 deductible and is subject to a $50,000 lifetime maximum benefit. This treatment has to be a type of treatment that would be covered by Medicare if the care been received in the United States.

Paying 80% of the Medicare Part B excess charges.

It is also possible for additional benefits to be offered in Medicare Supplemental policies, but these additional benefits must be approved by the state insurance commissioner.
