This web page covers California cobra quotes. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) is a program that allows certain people to continue their group medical insurance coverage after they have left a job or when they no longer work enough hours to qualify for the company's health insurance plan. Under most situations Cobra health coverage can usually last for 18 months. COBRA typically requires that group medical plans sponsored by employers with 20 or more employees in the previous year offer employees and their families a temporary extension of health coverage in certain instances where coverage under the plan would otherwise end. The program allows employees and their families who lose their health benefits the right to continue group medical benefits provided by their group health policy for a limited period of time under specific circumstances such as involuntary job loss, voluntary job loss, transition between jobs, divorce, reduction in the hours worked or death. A person who is on Cobra might have to pay the full premium for coverage as well as an additional 2 percent of the cost of the plan as an administrative fee. Once an individual has lost his or her group medical plan coverage their are 60 days to accept Cobra coverage or lose all rights to benefits.
