This web page talks about California Medicare dialysis. People who meet certain criteria may be able to get Medicare if they need dialysis because of end-stage renal disease or because they require a kidney transplant irregardless of their age. If a person qualifies for Medicare because of end-stage renal disease their Medcare coverage will start the fourth month that they receive dialysis. Coverage can start sooner if an individual can administer their own at-home dialysis. It is also possible to in the month an individual is admitted into a Medicare-approved hospital to get a kidney transplant, or two months before the transplant is scheduled to begin if there is a delay before the proceedure can be performed. You may stay on Medicare for one year after your dialysis ends or three years after a kidney transplant. Inpatient dialysis treatments and supplies come under Part A, but outpatient dialysis treatments and supplies are covered under Part B of Medicare. For inpatient hospital stays which include dialysis Medicare pays for the dialysis under Part A in the same way it would any other Medicare Part A covered hospital stay.
