This web page is about California Medicare Part A help. Medicare Part A is often referred to as hospital insurance. It essentially covers four types of health care expenses. The four types of care covered by Part A are home health care, hospice care, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility and inpatient hospital care. It also covers the cost of blood received at a hospital or skilled nursing facility during a covered stay. Each of these benefit types are subject to their own deductibles and benefit periods. For hospitalization Medicare will pay for the costs of meals, supplies, general nursing and semiprivate rooms. Part A doesn't however pay for telephones, private rooms (unless medically necessary), private duty nurses and televisions. For skilled nursing facilities Medicare will pay for such expenses as speech-language pathology services, a semiprivate room, rehabilitative care and skilled nursing services. For home health care Medicare pays for such things as physical and occupational services, durable medical equipment, part-time or intermittent skilled nursing services, part-time or intermittent home health aid services and medical social services. For hospice services Medicare will pay for the costs of such services as physical therapy, social worker services, medical equipment, pain control drugs, nurses, doctors, counseling and medical supplies. Under Medicare Part A all but the first three pints of blood are paid for by Medicare.
