This web page goes into California Medicare Supplemental additional benefits. In addition to the core benefits a Medicare Supplemental may also have further coverages. The additional benefits a plan can have must be in one of the ten possible benefit combinations allowed by the federal government. These possible combinations of benefits are labeled as Plan A through Plan F. Covering for at-home recovery. This coverage pays for at-home assistance with the activities of daily living (ADLs) while a person qualifies for Medicare home health care benefits. This at-home recovery coverage pays for up to a certain amount per visit by the provider and has an annual maximum. Covering the Medicare Part A deductible per benefit period. Paying the Medicare Part A co-payments for the 21st to the 100th day of care in a skilled nursing facility. The additional benefits a plan may offer are: Covering 80% of the billed charges for emergency treatment, physician services and other medical services received in a foreign country that is medically necessary. The care must begin within 60 days of leaving the United States. This benefit has a $250 deductible and is also subject to a $50,000 lifetime maximum benefit. The care has to be a type of care that would be covered by Medicare had the care been received in the United States. Paying the Medicare Part B deductible. Covering the Medicare Part B excess charges. Depending on the plan selected, this coverage can be either 80% or 100%. Covers 50% of outpatient prescription medication costs. This coverage has a deductible and there is a limit on how much the plan will pay in a year for prescriptions. Covers a variety of preventive care services that are not covered by Medicare. There is an annual limit on this coverage.
